The Selected Works of John Hutchinson

Well, hi there.

As you might have guessed, this site belongs to one John Hutchinson (that's me), a web designer and developer based just outside of Philadelphia in southern New Jersey, USA. At this point, I've been building web sites for over a decade, which is a long time to spend doing much of anything. But I really, really enjoy it, so I consider myself fairly lucky to get to do so for so long.

On this page, you can find the evidence of my professional career in the form of a portfolio of featured works and my complete resume.

As a web developer, I have a very strong bias towards usability, accessibility, and good, clean UI. Through the use of strict W3C standards-based semantic code, Section 508 accessibility recommendations, machine-readable microformats, and an independence from proprietary technologies like Adobe Flash, I do absolutely everything I can to make sure the sites I build are viewable and accessible in any web browser on any platform by anyone in the world. In doing so, my sites tend to fair quite a bit better in search engine rankings, simply because they were built in a way that helps the search engines figure out exactly what my pages are about.

Gooding and Company

Werner Enterprises

Gooding & Company currently maintain an Adobe Flash based web site at goodingco.com and wanted a more accessible non-flash version built to emulate the behavior of the flash site. Using only HTML, CSS, and the jQuery javascript framework, goodingco.com/home.php was quickly built on a tight schedule and budget to do just that. Gooding & Company is currently in the process of a complete site redesign, the unfinished development version of which can be seen at gooding.johnhutch.com.

This site does lots of other things and was designed by Cynthia Passanante alongside MMI Agency. Other words and phrases about stuff that isn’t Lorem Ipsum text.

aam.conference2010.org is the 2010 meeting site for the Association for Accounting Marketing. Built entirely in the Drupal content management system and custom themed along side the Association Headquarters web team, aam.conference2010.org brings online social networking to the brick-and-morter annual meeting world. In addition to the wealth of custom functionality, several soon-to-be distributed custom Drupal modules were also developed by the Association Headquarters web team to facilitate the site’s connectivity to AAM’s member data backend.
